What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional therapy is a holistic discipline that uses food, and nutritional supplements if required, to improve and maintain good health. The food we eat and the fluids we drink are the building blocks of our bodies - both physically and chemically. A healthy body needs to digest and absorb food properly to ensure optimal supplies of essential nutrients to the cells and to eliminate waste and toxins effectively.
Nutritional therapy aims to find and treat the root cause of health problems rather than just treating symptoms; it also benefits people who have no specific illness, but who want to obtain a state of optimum health and vitality. Lifestyle and nutrition are intimately linked.
The consultation is a collaborative process to determine your own specific goals and in so doing help you to understand the impact different foods have on your health. In addition advice and guidance is given on healthy, tasty foods and ideas for incorporating them into a way of eating that suits your body and lifestyle.
Nutritional Therapy can benefit many conditions including:
- Allergies / food intolerances
- Arthritis
- Asthma
- Constipation, diarrhoea
- Depression / mood swings
- Digestive problems, such as IBS, bloating and indigestion
- Eczema / psoriasis / acne

The Consultation Process
The first consultation lasts about one hour and builds an important foundation.
During this session you will cover the following:
- A detailed review of your current health, diet and lifestyle followed by
- An explanation of how various factors may be impacting upon your health and well-being leading to
- A series of recommendations for a Nutritional Programme and possible lifestyle changes.
- Julie aims to make dietary changes as easy as possible with practical food ideas that fit in with your lifestyle as well as your likes and dislikes.
A 30 minute follow-up consultation is generally scheduled four weeks after the initial consultation to monitor progress and to make adjustments to your programme as necessary. Further follow-up consultations may be advisable and the number required will vary depending on progress. Finally a long term strategy is agreed in order to maintain optimum health.
